Top 76ers News

  • 76ers' Justin Edwards: Starting Thursday

Edwards will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup with the Pistons, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

This will be Edwards' sixth start of the season and he'll be joined in the first unit by VJ Edgecombe, Trendon Watford, Quentin Grimes and Dominick Barlow. As a starter this season, Edwards has compiled averages of 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

  • 76ers' Trendon Watford: Joining starting lineup

Watford is starting Thursday's game against the Pistons, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

With Kelly Oubre out multiple weeks with an elbow sprain, Watford has a chance to carve out a steady role in the first unit. Watford has averaged 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 24.0 minutes per game over six contests as a starter this season, shooting 52.2 percent from the field.

  • 76ers' Andre Drummond: Sitting out Thursday

Drummond (back) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Pistons, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

Drummond's back issue appeared to flare up earlier in the day, and it's bothering him enough to keep him from playing Thursday. The Sixers will be without Drummond, Joel Embiid (oblique), Kelly Oubre (elbow) and Adem Bona (back) in the frontcourt, leaving plenty of opportunities for the likes of Dominick Barlow, Trendon Watford and Jabari Walker.

  • 76ers' Adem Bona: Considered day-to-day

Bona, who has been ruled out for Thursday's game against Detroit, is being considered day-to-day after scans on his back came back clean, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

Bona was sent for imaging after experiencing back soreness, but the results shows that he's managed to avoid a serious injury. The Sixers will presumably re-evaluate the big man again Friday to get a better idea of his availability for Saturday's clash against the Nets.

  • 76ers' Adem Bona: Ruled out Thursday

Bona (back) is out for Thursday's game against the Pistons.

Bona was unable to shake his questionable tag for this contest and will join Joel Embiid (oblique) on the shelf. Andre Drummond (back) is questionable, so the 76ers may need guys like Dominick Barlow and Trendon Watford to step up.

  • 76ers' Andre Drummond: Iffy for Thursday's game

Drummond is listed questionable for Thursday's game against the Pistons due to back spasms.

Drummond was a late addition to the 76ers' injury report, which suggests his back may have bothered him upon waking up Thursday or presented problems for him during pregame shootaround. Though he's come off the bench over the Sixers' last four games during Joel Embiid's (oblique) ongoing absence, Drummond will likely start Thursday if he's able to overcome the back injury, as Philadelphia has downgraded Adem Bona (back) to out for the contest. Clarity on Drummond's status should arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the game's 7 p.m. ET tipoff.

  • 76ers' Adem Bona: Lands questionable designation

Bona is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against Detroit due to back soreness.

Bona is at risk of missing his first game since Jan. 9 as he tends to a back issue. If Bona were to sit Thursday, Andre Drummond would assume starting center duties, while Dominick Barlow and Trendon Watford could see some action at the five spot.

  • 76ers' Kelly Oubre: To miss at least two weeks

Oubre is expected to miss at least two weeks due to a left elbow sprain, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.

Oubre missed nearly two months with a knee sprain earlier this season, and he's now set for his second extended absence of the year. Given the timeline for his return, the swingman could realistically be sidelined until April. With the 76ers riddled with injuries, Trendon Watford, Tyrese Martin and Justin Edwards could all compete for Oubre's vacated starting position.

  • 76ers' Quentin Grimes: Lives at charity stripe in win

Grimes logged 23 points (6-16 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 11-13 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two steals over 35 minutes during the 76ers' 139-129 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Grimes struggled from deep, but he was rewarded for his aggressiveness with a season-high 11 made free throws. He's scored at least 23 points in two of his last three outings, and the fifth-year pro should continue to operate in an expanded role due to the absences of Tyrese Maxey (finger), Joel Embiid (oblique) and Paul George (suspension).

  • 76ers' VJ Edgecombe: Logs 21 points in return

Edgecombe (back) finished Tuesday's 139-129 win over the Grizzlies with 21 points (7-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), five rebounds, five assists and three steals over 35 minutes.

After a three-game absence due to a lumbar contusion, Edgecombe was cleared to suit up and didn't operate with a minutes restriction. Edgecombe's return was especially timely after Tyrese Maxey was diagnosed Tuesday with a tendon injury to his pinky finger, which will keep him out for at least the next three weeks. Edgecombe showed some rust from beyond the arc, but he still posted 20-plus points for the fifth time in eight appearaces since the All-Star break. Edgecombe will need to take on a larger role moving forward in the absences of Maxey, Paul George (suspension) and Joel Embiid (oblique).

  • 76ers' Kelly Oubre: Double-doubles vs. Memphis

Oubre tallied 31 points (10-24 FG, 1-9 3Pt, 10-12 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block over 38 minutes during the 76ers' 139-129 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Oubre struggled from beyond the arc, but that was about the only blemish to his game as he and Cameron Payne (32 points) propelled the 76ers to a come-from-behind victory. It was the first time this season that Oubre made 10 free throws in a game, and he set a season high in both points and rebounds en route to his fourth double-double of the season. The veteran wing will have more offensive responsibilities on his shoulders for at least the next three weeks due to the absence of Tyrese Maxey (finger).

  • 76ers' Cameron Payne: Perfect from deep in career night

Payne finished Tuesday's 139-129 win over the Grizzlies with 32 points (9-10 FG, 8-8 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 assists, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks over 30 minutes.

The 76ers received the devastating news before Tuesday's game that Tyrese Maxey will miss at least the next three weeks due to a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger. The absence of the two-time All-Star opened the door for opportunities for Payne, who gave the Sixers a much-needed spark off the bench after starting Monday's game against the Hornets. The move out of the starting five didn't impact the veteran southpaw, who proceeded to record career highs in points and three-pointers made. He missed just one of his 10 field-goal attempts and also got his teammates involved with a game-high 10 dimes for his first double-double since April 2024. Whether he comes off the bench or starts, it appears as though Payne will benefit the most from Maxey's absence in terms of production and opportunities.

  • 76ers' Tyrese Maxey: Will be re-evaluated in three weeks

Maxey has been diagnosed with a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

This is a tough blow for the 76ers, who will also be without Paul George (suspension) until late March. Maxey sustained the finger injury with just 16 seconds remaining in Saturday's loss to Atlanta after colliding with Adem Bona. With Maxey sidelined for at least the next three weeks, VJ Edgecombe should see increased ball-handling duties, while Cameron Payne and Tyrese Martin are candidates for increased minutes.

  • 76ers' Cameron Payne: Retreating to bench Tuesday

Payne is not in the Sixers' starting lineup against the Grizzlies on Tuesday, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

Payne made his first start for the 76ers in Monday's 115-101 loss to the Cavaliers, when he finished with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two three-pointers over 28 minutes. Even though Tyrese Maxey (finger) is not playing Tuesday, Payne will still revert to a bench role due to the return of VJ Edgecombe (back).

  • 76ers' VJ Edgecombe: Good to go Tuesday

Edgecombe (back) is available for Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.

Edgecombe will shed his questionable tag and return from a three-game absence due to a lumbar contusion. The rookie first-rounder will likely operate in more of an on-ball role Tuesday with Tyrese Maxey (finger) sidelined. Over seven appearances since the All-Star break, Edgecombe has averaged 18.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals in 33.6 minutes per game.
