Top Saints News

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Limited in return to practice

Olave (back) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Olave sat out Wednesday's session after his back injury from last week flared up after Sunday's defeat at Miami, as coach Kellen Moore told Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. One day later, Olave's ability to handle at least individual drills indicates that he's trending positively ahead of Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, and Friday's injury report will reveal if he carries a designation into the weekend.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Back at practice

Olave (back) returned to practice Thursday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports.

Coach Kellen Moore said Wednesday that the back injury Olave dealt with last week flared up after Sunday's loss at Miami, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, resulting in an absence to being Week 14 prep. Olave's activity level one day later will be revealed once the Saints post Thursday's practice report.

  • Saints' Taliese Fuaga: Not at practice Wednesday

Fuaga (ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.

Fuaga returned to the lineup last week after missing two games with a high ankle sprain. It appears he's still feeling the effects to some extent, and if he's unable to play this Sunday versus the Buccaneers, Asim Richards likely will start at right tackle.

  • Saints' Justin Reid: DNP on Wednesday

Reid (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

Coach Kellen Moore added that Reid will not be placed on injured reserve with his knee injury that he suffered in last Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Reid could be looking at missing games, but it sounds like he has a good chance to play again this season.

  • Saints' Charlie Smyth: Expected to kick again Week 14

Smyth is likely to be New Orleans' placekicker Sunday in Tampa Bay, Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports reports.

Smyth kicked for the Saints this past Sunday against Miami and made his lone field-goal try -- a 56-yarder. He also helped New Orleans get the ball back late with a successful onside kick. Smyth was placed back on the Saints' practice squad Monday, but that move was almost certainly procedural, as he did more than enough to earn another elevation for Sunday's Week 14 matchup.

  • Saints' Alvin Kamara: Still not practicing

Kamara (knee/ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Kamara hasn't practiced since he sustained a sprained MCL during a Week 12 loss to the Falcons, and until he does he may not be a candidate to play on game days. Nevertheless, he'll have two more opportunities to prove his health this week before the Saints potentially make a ruling on his status ahead of Sunday's contest at Tampa Bay. If Kamara requires more time to recover, Devin Neal would be in line for his second start in a row after turniing 17 touches into 69 yards from scrimmage this past Sunday in Miami.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Still dealing with back injury

Olave (back) didn't practice Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Olave was able to play this past Sunday at Miami after dealing with a back injury last week. Coach Kellen Moore said that the issue flared up for Olave after that contest, and the fourth-year pro now will have two more chances this week to mix into drills before the Saints potentially tag him with a designation for a second straight week. Despite the health concern, Olave was able to log an 87 percent snap share Week 13 on his way to four catches (on seven targets) for 47 yards and one touchdown.

  • Saints' Dante Pettis: Joins active roster

The Saints signed Pettis from their practice squad to the active roster Wednesday.

The 2018 second-round pick from Washington has appeared in each of the Saints' last three games, catching his lone target for 14 yards while also accumulating 126 kick-return yards and 30 punt-return yards. Now with the active roster, Pettis will likely remain a depth option in New Orleans' receiving corps while operating as the top return man in the Week 14 matchup against the Buccaneers.
