Best bets for Thursday CFP quarterfinal games

Oddsmakers expect the early game to be the closest of these three quarterfinals, and it's the only one where the higher seed is the underdog. The Oregon Ducks (12-1) routed James Madison 51-34 in the first round on Dec. 20, while the Texas Tech Red Raiders (12-1) haven't played since beating BYU 34-7 in the Big 12 title game Dec. 6. Two victories against BYU and a win against Utah in September are TTU's most notable victories, but they are statistically one of the nation's best on both sides of the ball. The Ducks are led by quarterback Dante Moore, who will be picked near the top of the NFL Draft if he opts to enter, and their only loss is to CFP top seed Indiana. The game kicks off at noon ET. The Ducks are 2.5-point favorites in the Oregon vs. Texas Tech odds, and the Over/Under is 51.5. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every college football game 10,000 times, has Oregon covering in 57% of its simulations and the Over hitting 59% of the time.  

Alabama vs. Indiana is a matchup of notable quarterbacks -- Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza for IU and Ty Simpson for Bama. The Tide (11-3) should be less rusty after beating Oklahoma 34-24 in the first round while the Hoosiers (13-0) last played two weeks before that. They pulled off a huge victory then, topping CFP No. 2 seed Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game 13-10 on Dec. 6. The unbeaten Hoosiers are seven-point favorites, and the Over/Under is 47.5. The Crimson Tide are covering the spread in 63% of the model's simulations. Georgia (12-1) beat Ole Miss 43-35 in October after trailing by nine early in the fourth quarter, but the model expects this one to be closer.
