Tuesday World Cup betting preview

Can anyone slow down Lionel Messi? That'll be the main question when the defending World Cup champions take on Egypt on Tuesday morning. Argentina have largely relied on Messi to provide goals but they were a bit stymied by Cabo Verde in the Round of 32 after the African side focused on the superstar. Egypt have a bit more known quality across the board, so Argentina may need to find new outlets offensively to get past this side. However, SportsLine expert Brandt Sutton is taking Argentina against the spread, noting "Argentina got a scare in the last round against Cabo Verde, so I expect Messi and Co. to come out with a vengeance and pull away from an Egypt team that is making its first-ever Round of 16 appearance."

SportsLine expert Matt Severance is looking at Under 2.5 goals when Switzerland take on Colombia in the last Round of 16 match of the tournament. "Colombia is unbeaten in seven straight World Cup games. It has outscored foes 10-2 in those and kept a whopping five clean sheets -- including three straight entering Tuesday. It has allowed a single goal this year," he says. "The Swiss have totaled nine goals in this tournament -- but they haven't allowed more than one goal in any match and all three allowed beyond the 50th minute." Bet on the 2026 World Cup and more at FanDuel to earn up to $1,000 in Bet Reset Tokens after placing a wager of $5 or more:
