Best NHL trades for Thursday, April 2
The Buffalo Sabres are trying to hang on to the top spot in the Atlantic Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning lurking right behind. The Sabres have won consecutive games and are 6-1-2 in their past nine as they head to Ottawa. Thursday's game is even more critical for the Senators as they are two points behind the Blue Jackets, who hold the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has lost three in a row and has lost both meetings with the Sabres this season, one of them 8-4 and the other 3-2 in overtime. The Sabres are getting a "B" grade from the SportsLine model, winning in 58% of its simulations, and Kalshi has shares on Buffalo to win at $0.48.
The Lightning are 6-1-2 in their past nine games but fell two points behind the Sabres when Tampa Bay lost 4-1 to Montreal at home Tuesday. Things don't get any easier Thursday when the Lightning host the Penguins. Pittsburgh moved into second place in the Metropolitan Division with victories against the now-third-place Islanders on Monday and the Red Wings on Tuesday. Pittsburgh has scored five fewer goals and allowed 31 more than the Lightning. The teams have split the first two meetings of the season, with the road team winning each time. Kalshi has shares on the Penguins priced at $0.40, but they are winning in 50% of the SportsLine model's simulations.
The Red Wings and Flyers meet again Thursday after Philadelphia took a 5-3 victory in Detroit last Saturday. The Flyers then beat the Stars 2-1 in overtime the following day before a 6-4 loss to the Capitals on Tuesday. The Red Wings followed up with a 5-1 loss Tuesday in Pittsburgh but should be more rested with one fewer game since these teams last met. Philly has won six of its past eight, while Detroit has lost four of five. They are tied on points, with both sitting two behind the final wild card spot. The Red Wings are winning 56% of the time, according to the model, and shares are going for $0.49 apiece at Kalshi.
The Montreal Canadiens are also in the middle of the Atlantic Division race, sitting four points behind Buffalo, and they face a seemingly easier road than their rivals Thursday. The SportsLine model has the Canadiens beating the last-place New York Rangers in 67% of its simulations, while Kalshi has shares on Montreal available for $0.48. The Habs have won six in a row and face a Rangers team that has followed a six-game losing streak with three consecutive victories. New York has won both meetings this season.
