Poindexter puts up 27 in Illinois State's 86-79 victory against Evansville

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) Malachi Poindexter scored 27 points as Illinois State beat Evansville 86-79 on Sunday.

Poindexter shot 7 for 11 (6 for 10 from 3-point range) and 7 of 8 from the free throw line for the Redbirds (13-14, 7-9 Missouri Valley Conference). Myles Foster added 20 points while shooting 10 of 15 from the field, and he also had eight rebounds. Johnny Kinziger had 18 points.

The Purple Aces (15-12, 6-10) were led in scoring by Ben Humrichous, who finished with 21 points. Yacine Toumi added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for Evansville. In addition, Kenny Strawbridge had 13 points and six assists.

Illinois State took an 18-7 lead in the first half with an 18-3 run. Led by 13 first-half points from Poindexter, Illinois State carried a 44-36 lead into the break. Illinois State took the lead for good with 5:39 left in the second half on a 3-pointer from Luke Kasubke to make it a 67-66 game.
