No. 1 -- Who’s the leader? One of the most underrated aspects of this year’s Syracuse team was the leadership provided by departing seniors PG Scoop Jardine and F Kris Joseph. In practice the two acted as an extension of the coaching staff and were always guiding the younger players. Syracuse will be loaded with young talent next season but someone needs to step up and become a leader. No. 2 -- Offense off the bench. G Dion Waiters provided instant offense coming off the bench, scoring in double figures 26 times this season. The Big East’s Sixth Man of the Year averaged 12.6 ppg but is leaving for the NBA. One guy who could replace Waiters’ production is redshirt freshman G Trevor Cooney. Assistant coach Gerry McNamara has called Cooney the best pure shooter he’s ever seen. Cooney will get a chance to prove it next year. No. 3 -- Stay hungry. The 2011-12 Orange were an extremely hungry bunch. Despite all the outside distractions, Syracuse stayed focused on the court. The players put their egos aside, didn’t complain about playing time and only cared about winning games. The Orange lose four key contributors off this year’s team, so it remains to be seen if the same hunger and focus will be present next season.
