ACC scoreboard for Dec. 29

No. 1 Duke 90, Santa Clara 77: G Seth Curry scored 31 points as Duke (12-0) pulled away from Santa Clara (11-3) in the second half to win at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils trailed 45-41 early in the second half but used a 21-3 run to take control. C Mason Plumlee had 22 points and 13 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Santa Clara G Kevin Foster scored 29 points, including 18 in the first half.

No. 23 NC State 84, Western Michigan 68: Five players scored in double figures as NC State (10-2) got a home win over Western Michigan (8-5). F C.J. Leslie led the Wolfpack with 19 points, and F Richard Howell added 18 points and nine rebounds. Freshman T.J. Warren had 15 points off the bench for NC State. F Nate Hutcheson had a team-high 16 points for the Broncos, and F Darius Paul had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Maryland 79, Delaware State 50: Maryland (11-1) shot 56.9 percent from the floor as it cruised to its 11th consecutive victory. True freshman F Charles Mitchell had career highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Terrapins. He had six points and nine rebounds combined in his previous three games. Gs Dez Wells and G Seth Allen each had 10 points for Maryland. G Tahj Tate had a game-high 20 points for Delaware State (5-8).

Boston College 70, Holy Cross 60: Boston College (7-5) used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to create some breathing room oagainst Holy Cross (7-6). Eagles F Ryan Anderson had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and G Patrick Heckmann had a team-high 19 points, going 5 of 7 on 3s. Boston College has won four straight. Eric Obeysekere had 17 points for Holy Cross.

North Carolina 79, No. 20 UNLV 73: North Carolina (10-3) got its best win of the season against the Rebels (11-2) in Chapel Hill. Even more impressive, the Tar Heels won without starting G Reggie Bullock, who missed the game with a concussion. Five North Carolina players scored in double figures, including G P.J. Hairston, who had 15 points starting in Bullock’s place. G Dexter Strickland led the Tar Heels with 16 points. Freshman F Anthony Bennett had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Rebels.

BYU 97, Virginia Tech 71: BYU (10-4) opened a 56-31 halftime lead and cruised against Virginia Tech (9-4) in Salt Lake City, Utah. G Tyler Haws had a career-high 42 points for the Cougars, scoring 29 in the first half. The Hokies have lost four of their past six games after a 7-0 start. Virginia Tech PG Erick Green scored a season-low 12 points on 4-of-18 shooting. The Hokies went 2 for 21 from 3.

Florida State 82, Tulsa 63: Florida State (8-4) pulled away in the second half against Tulsa (7-6) in the Orange Bowl Classic at Sunrise, Fla. G Michael Snaer had another solid outing, scoring 19 points and making 8 of 11 free throws. F Terrance Shannon had a season-high 16 points to go with 11 rebounds. Tulsa went 11 for 24 from 3 but made just 33.3 percent of its shots from inside the arc. Golden Hurricane G Pat Swilling, Jr. had 19 points.

Georgia Tech 73, Fordham 48: Georgia Tech (9-2) held Fordham (3-10) to 28.1-percent shooting as the Yellow Jackets won their fifth in a row. C Daniel Miller and F Robert Carter, Jr. each had 14 points to lead Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets had 11 players play double-digit minutes, and 12 players escored. Georgia Tech shot 50 percent from the field and committed just eight turnovers. G Branden Frazier had a game-high 17 points for Fordham.

Star of the night: Curry, Duke. Curry’s 31 points are the most he has scored at Duke, and the Blue Devils needed them as they were tested at home by Santa Clara. Curry sored 12 points in a 21-3 run that gave Duke control midway through the second half.

Inside the box score -- 3 numbers worth a second look

6 -- Duke allowed Santa Clara just six offensive rebounds. Entering Saturday, the Blue Devils were No. 203 nationally, allowing opponents 33 percent of their offensive boards, according to kenpom.com. That number was 21.2 percent against Santa Clara.

54.5 -- NC State shot 54.5 percent from the field and 59 percent from inside the arc against Western Michigan. Heading into Saturday, the Wolfpack were shooting 53.4 percent, which leads the country.

31 -- Virginia Tech has lost its past two games by an average of 31 points. The Hokies lost 88-52 to Colorado State in Las Vegas and 97-71 to BYU. The optimism from Virginia Tech’s 7-0 start is long gone.
