Eight mid-major college basketball programs are showcasing their skills this week at the Belfast Classic. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is putting on the event, with the Albany Great Danes taking on the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds on the CBS Sports Network on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET. The Great Danes are one-point favorites over the Blackbirds and the total is set at 145 in the latest Albany vs. LIU-Brooklyn odds. Before you lock in your LIU-Brooklyn vs. Albany picks, be sure to check out the projections from the advanced computer model at SportsLine.
Over the past two years, the SportsLine Projection Model has returned over $5,200 to $100 players on its top-rated college basketball picks. And it enters Week 3 of the 2018-19 college basketball season on a blistering 6-1 run on its top-rated point-spread picks. Anybody who has been following it is way, way up.
Now the model has simulated LIU-Brooklyn vs. Albany (stream on fuboTV) 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you it's leaning Over, and it also has an extremely strong against the spread pick, saying one side cashes almost 60 percent of the time. You can only see that one at SportsLine.
The model knows that senior guard Raiquan Clark got his first opportunity to start at LIU-Brooklyn last season and made the most of it, averaging 17.3 points per game. This season, he's been even better, averaging 22.3 points through the first six games. That includes two 30-point games this year. The guard does most of his damage by getting to the rim, which is why he shoots nearly 55 percent from the field.
But that doesn't mean Albany can't cover at the Belfast Classic 2018.
Albany has won 20 games in each of the last four seasons. The Danes might start three freshmen this year, but they're all capable players who have veteran leaders like Ahmad Clark, a key bench player last season, and Devonte Campbell as the lone returning starter. And the freshmen are clearly talented too.
Cameron Healy is scoring an average of 16.2 points through the first six games of his career. Healy can shoot it from anywhere on the floor and is hitting over 40 percent from beyond the arc.
