Pepperdine has slowly but steadily improved in its three years under head coach Marty Wilson -- and the Waves are hoping to push over the .500 mark this season.
The key in that jump, though, is junior forward Stacy Davis -- and he suffered a fractured right hand last week during workouts.
According to the school, Davis will be reevaluated later this month, but should be available for the season opener against Fresno State on Nov. 14.
“Stacy won’t miss a whole lot because he’s already got a good feel for what we’re doing,” Wilson said. “He’s got to stay in shape so he’ll be with strength coach Matt Young doing a lot of bike and a lot of cardio. We’ll keep him engaged with what we’re doing on the court and put him in as many drills as we can. It’ll also give him a chance to work on his left hand. He’s got a great right hand, and he needs to balance it with his left.”
The 6-foot-6 Davis averaged 15.1 points and 7.6 rebounds last season, earning first-team all-West Coast Conference honors.
