Big Ten scoreboard for Dec. 4

Northwestern 74, Baylor 70: The Wildcats' 13-point lead at the 5:36 mark of the second half dwindled to just two before G Drew Crawford hit two free throws to close out Baylor (5-3). Northwestern (7-2) struggled against the Bears' press and shot just 4 of 10 from the free throw line over the final 2:09 of the game. Crawford led the Wildcats with 19 points but all five starters scored in double digits. Coach Bill Carmody used just an eight-man rotation and the starters played an average of 34 minutes in the win.  

No. 3 Michigan 73, Western Michigan 41: Rotating from a zone defense to a man-to-man scheme, the Wolverines (8-0) shut down Western Michigan's offense on Tuesday night. The Broncos (6-2) shot just 2 for 17 from the 3-point line and had 16 turnovers. On the offensive end, PG Trey Burke dazzled with an array of crossovers and dishes, often finding forwards Mitch McGary (5 for 5, 10 points) or Jordan Morgan (4 for 6, 8 points) in the post. Burke finished with 20 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. 

No. 14 Minnesota 88, South Dakota State 64: The Golden Gophers (9-1) used an impressive offensive explosion to cage the Jackrabbits (6-3). Minnesota shot a blistering 56.9 percent from the field and finished with 21 assists on 33 field goals in the victory. The Gophers were led by G Andre Hollins, who had a game-high 22 points as he made 6 of 7, 3-pointers in just 23 minutes. The Jackrabbits were shorthanded as dynamic G Nate Wolters (20.8 ppg) missed the game with an ankle injury.  

Wisconsin 86, Nebraska Omaha 40: The Badgers (6-3) dominated on both ends of the floor to post an easy victory at Kohl Center. Wisconsin held the Mavericks to 33 percent shooting and posted a 46-23 edge in rebounding as they forced 19 turnovers. G Ben Brust scored a game-high 15 points to go with 10 rebounds in the win.

Purdue 72, Lamar 39: The Boilermakers (4-4) used a smothering defensive effort to cruise to an easy victory. The Cardinals (1-7) shot a mere 30.4 percent from the floor and committed 16 turnovers. Purdue was paced by G Terone Johnson, who finished with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting to go with seven rebounds and two assists.

No. 13 Illinois 72, Western Carolina 64: The Fighting Illini (9-0) needed every point as they struggled to put away the Catamounts (3-6). Illinois struggled as its frontcourt battled foul trouble all night. C Nnanna Egwu fouled out with five points and four rebounds in 17 minutes while F Tyler Griffey had just five points and six rebounds in 23 minutes as he was whistled four times in 23 minutes.

Iowa 87, South Dakota 63: The Hawkeyes (7-2) posted a solid win by dominating the glass against the Coyotes (4-5). Iowa held a 50-28 edge on the glass as F Aaron White finished with 21 points and six rebounds and G Roy Devyn Marble had 14 points and eight rebounds. The Hawkeyes also were a 17 of 19 at the free-throw line and turned the ball over just 11 times.

Star of the night: Hollins: The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has shot up NBA draft boards across the country with his dynamic play. Hollins had 22 points in the win over the Jackrabbits and flashed a deadly three-point shot after showing off his ability to attack the glass at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament last month. The sophomore is averaging 12.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

13 -- The number of Wisconsin players who scored in Tuesday night's win. Of the 14 players who checked in, only G Jordan Smith (0 for 2) failed to register any points.

8 -- The Wolverines are now 8-0, their best start since the 1996-97 season.

12.5 -- The Hawkeyes' 3-point shooting percentage on Tuesday night. Iowa shot 2 for 16 from beyond the arc after coming into the game shooting 33 percent from deep. The Hawkeyes did, however, hit 17 of 19 free throws.
