Former Kansas player Carlton Bragg Jr., a sophomore transfer, will play at Arizona State, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
Bragg will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer protocol but will have two years of on-court eligibility remaining when he suits up for the Sun Devils in the fall of 2018.
A McDonald's All-American in the Class of 2015, Bragg averaged just 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 69 games at Kansas. He was unable to find consistency or expanded impact in two seasons under Bill Self, and in fact the biggest headlines for Bragg came away from basketball last season.
First, he was erroneously accused of and charged with misdemeanor battery in a domestic dispute. Those charges were dropped when Bragg's accuser was found on video to be fabricating her story. But in February, Bragg faced a three-game suspension after police found drug materials in his dorm room amid an investigation into a separate matter. He was handed a misdemeanor charge for the discovery.
Now, one of the most talented players on the transfer market in 2017 is heading toward a place that has produced NBA Draft picks such as James Harden, Carrick Felix and Eddie House. For Bragg, that could still be a possibility. Bragg was projected as a first-round type of talent when he enrolled at Kansas. Perhaps he gets the reboot he needs out in the desert, as Arizona State is a program on the upswing under Bobby Hurley. The team's won 15 games the past two seasons, but with enough talent coming back next season, the Sun Devils should be on pace to be an NCAA Tournament-caliber team in time for Bragg's redshirt junior season.
The ASU choice for Bragg came over Illinois, Xavier, Cincinnati and North Carolina State.
