Tyson Nash is a former NHL player and the current color analyst for the Phoenix Coyotes television broadcasts. His job is to analyze and give his opinion. Which is exactly what he did on Tuesday night when Coyotes forward Raffi Torres knocked out Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa.
As a result he received some serious threats.
"You have to love the Twitter world," Nash said on a radio show Wednesday morning (from ESPN.com). "I had a few people mentioning they'll be meeting me for breakfast, so we'll see how that goes.
"I mentioned it to our guy. It's fine, it's fine. It is what it is."
Why such a strong reaction toward Nash? Well he initially reacted to the hit by saying that he thought it was as clean as it gets. Here's all of what Nash had to say just after the hit on the broadcast.
Indeed I'll admit that it's a sneaky bad hit, not long ago this hit probably would have been acceptable. But you can't leave the ice before the hit and connect with a guy's head, especially well after the puck is gone. It can and almost assuredly will be punished by the league, even if the referees didn't call anything in the game on the hit.
"I wish I didn't say what I said," Nash said. "You have to pick more of a middle ground. When you see Hossa lying there longer and longer you say 'Oh jeez, let's really take a closer look at this.' I thought he was going to get right back up, obviously that wasn't the case."
Nash later conceded that after seeing more replays that Torres did elevate off the ice before the hit and connected with Hossa's jaw.
But people taking it to the next step and threatening Nash because his first reaction was that it was clean? Come on. That's going way beyond crossing the line. I understand full well there are a lot of Internet tough guys out there who wouldn't do anything to Nash but run if they saw him, but still, it's a bit ridiculous.
