After taking somewhat surprising back-to-back losses to Northwestern and Michigan earlier in the week, Wisconsin is now suddenly battling for its right back to the top of the Big Ten standings. With a Sunday battle against Maryland, who is still fighting for its due respect nationally, looming, this is a critical momentum-swinging game that could determine the eventual Big Ten champion.
Here’s how you can catch the game this weekend on TV or streaming online. We’ll also highlight matchups to watch and a pick against the spread.

Scouting report
Wisconsin gets its heavy lifting done down in the paint, with Ethan Happ and Nigel Hayes -- one of the Big Ten’s best big man duos -- leading the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists. The Badgers, who run one of the slowest offenses in the country, work the ball to Hayes in the high post and run the offense through him. So for Maryland, getting the high-low game contained early will be key.
For Maryland to be successful, senior Melo Trimble needs to be on his game. And with a current 21-4 record this season, he’s been more than on top of it. Averaging 16.6 points and 3.9 assists per game, Trimble is the straw that stirs the drink for a Terrapin team that is talented but inexperienced. Three freshmen, Justin Jackson, Kevin Huerter and Anthony Cowan, are thriving in starting roles and maturing quickly under Mark Turgeon.
Matchups to watch
While Maryland’s defense gives up 96.5 points per 100 possession -- a mark that ranks just 50th nationally -- the Terps do protect the rim, blocking 12 percent of available opportunities, according to KenPom. That’s a mark that plays in favor of Maryland. The way Ethan Happ is playing, though, it’s a battle of slowing him rather than stopping him. He’s a crafty passer and an athletic big man who can score with his back to the basket and take you off the dribble. Look for Justin Jackson and Damonte Dodd of Maryland to keep him in check.
Odds and pick
SportsLine odds: Wisconsin -7
SportsLine projection: Wisconsin 68, Maryland 61
Pick: Maryland +7
In three losses in Big Ten play for the Terps, none have been by more than six points. I don’t think that changes this weekend. Maryland has the edge in the backcourt in my eyes, and I’ll side with Trimble over just about anyone in the country. I actually like Maryland to win straight up.
