March Madness First Four scores: Xavier rallies late to top Texas; Mount St. Mary's advances to face Duke

The First Four is officially in the books. No. 11 seed Xavier stunned No. 11 seed Texas with an 86-80 comeback win to cap two incredible days of basketball from Dayton, Ohio. The Musketeers will face No. 6 seed Illinois on Friday in the first round.

Xavier trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half. Xavier guard Marcus Foster scored 16 of his season-high 22 points after halftime to help his team advance. The loss by Texas likely ends the college career of star freshman Tre Johnson - a projected early lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary's defeated No. 16 seed American 83-72 to pick up its third NCAA Tournament win in program history. Mount St. Mary's will face Cooper Flagg and No. 1 seed Duke on Friday.

Mount St. Mary's had three players finish with at least 15 points in the win. American star Matt Rogers logged only eight minutes

Which First Four team can make a run?

Selection Sunday was full of surprises, arguably none bigger than North Carolinamaking the field. The Tar Heels own impressive metrics but an absolute eyesore of a Quad 1 record (1-12), the latest of those losses a heartbreaker to shorthanded Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

There are plenty of arguments for West Virginia (6-10 in Quad 1) or Indiana (wins over Michigan State and Purdue), but that's life on the bubble. If you want to argue in favor of the Tar Heels, you can look at their 8-0 record in Quad 2 games, their close calls against the nation's best and their strong finish to the season.
