Central Michigan guard Marcus Keene is the nation's top scorer, averaging 28.7 points per game for the Chippewas.
But his performance against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday was impressive even by Keene's lofty standards.
The junior guard continued his remarkable junior season with a 50-point outing in a 101-92 win over the Redhawks. He did it efficiently, too, hitting 15 of his 23 field-goal attempts and knocking down all 10 of his free throws. Oh, and 30 of his points came from the 3-point line, hitting 10 of his 15 attempts.
Keene's performance puts him in the company of a short list of players to hit the half-century mark since 2009:
Nov. 13, 2009: Rotnei Clarke (Arkansas): 51 points
Jan. 4, 2011: Mike James (Lamar): 52 points
Feb. 23, 2011: Marshon Brooks (Providence): 52 points
March 11, 2011: Jimmer Fredette (BYU): 52 points
Jan. 30, 2012: Kevin Murphy (Tennessee Tech): 50 points
Feb. 7, 2013: Nate Wolters (South Dakota State): 53 points
Keene has been teetering near the mark several times this season but finally broke through. He scored a previous career-high 44 in a game against Montana State, and also reached the 40-point mark against Green Bay.
