Welp, here's all you might've missed and all you need to know from a really good Wednesday night in college hoops. (We forgive you if you spent most of the night trying to figure out the crazy Manti Te'o story, which probably has six new layers by the time you're reading this.)

Game of the Night No. 1: Are you kidding me? Back-to-back nights, college basketball provides this kind of ending? First it was Ole Miss and Marshall Henderson. And then, well ...

Matthew Dellavedova followed up a big shot from BYU's Tyler Haws with a mid-air, one-armed, double-clutch prayer that covered 40 feet of court with one dribble -- and he had time to spare. And look at it -- look at his hop of hope before the ball falls through the net. It was a wild night; this was the best way to end it.

Saint Mary's is 14-4 and 3-1 in the West Coast Conference; BYU drops its first league game to move to 4-1 and owns a 14-5 record overall. Yes, it was a rough Wednesday for Mormons. I'm wired beyond belief right now. Might not even sleep tonight. I love Delly on my telly.

Game of the Night No. 2: NC State gets a taste of its  own medicine.

The Terps had some help from Alex Len, who caught a Pe'Shon Howard miss and put back an airball. Sound familiar? The Wolfpack won some sort of big game in 1983 the same way. The finish: 51-50. Maryland fans rushed the floor, but I was hoping to see someone in crutches get out there.

Ah, well. Hey, the crazy trend continues for NC State. It has lost all but one game in the past 20 years when it follows up after beating UNC or Duke. And a good sign for State was Lorenzo Brown looking good, scoring 17 in a low-scoring game, including giving State the go-ahead bucket before the lead got taken away.

This win is good for the ACC. Maryland needs to show it can be a tourney team this year. Wednesday night will go a long way to that.

What else we'll be talking about in the morning: You know, aside from Manti Te'o.

UNLV takes it against SDSU 82-75 on the road and with a variety of lineups. They went small and were able to win with four guards on the floor and scoot past the Aztecs. It's the first win in years for UNLV at Viejas Center, and SDSU's 10-game winning streak is over.

More impressive: sitting Mike Moser and Anthony Bennett in a tight spot. Anthony Marshall was huge for the Rebels. Gary Parrish will be writing more on this game in a bit.

That's a good win: Iowa State is now in the thick of the good in the Big 12. 

It was the play that could've been replayed for the rest of the week -- if only his team hadn't lost. Video's not yet up from what I can find, but West Virginia's Jabarie Hinds juked Korey Lucious onto his rump and hit a 3 to tie the game in the final few seconds. Just a nasty move, but also kind of a push-off. No matter, because WVU then collapsed on defense and a deft pass from senior Will Clyburn to freshman breakout player Georges Niang with 2.5 to go gave the Cyclones a 69-67 win.

But that's a bad loss: Wyoming, don't go down the drain on us.

Wait ... a 49-36 road loss to Fresno State? Wyoming, what on earth? Now the Pokes are a 1-2 MWC team, and they'll need to reel off wins in five of their next six games or so if they want to keep up with the chase. I'm thinking what you're thinking: The revealing, ugly news surrounding Luke Martinez might've played a factor here.

Players with impact

Javon McCrea, have yourself a good meal. The Buffalo man who does it all had a Wednesday night-high 33 points and also brought in 10 rebounds.

Semaj Christon hit a layup-and-foul to give Xavier a 66-64 win at St. Bonaventure. Christon finished with 19 points, 10 assists.

Frankie Sullivan scored 23 of his 26 points in the final 30 minutes, and he even snagged a career-best nine boards, but Auburn fell 88-80 to Arkansas in double OT. Now the Tigers have a loss in SEC play.

Numbers to figure:

  1. 5-11: Jay Wright's record all time vs. Pitt. The Wildcats fell at home 58-43 to the Panthers. Villanova's season can't end quick enough, I don't think.
  2. 659: How many days that have passed since Washington State's Brock Motum did not score in the first half of a game. Happened Wednesday against Utah.
  3. 714: How long between road wins for South Carolina, until Wednesday night. Congrats, Frank Martin.

Other outcomes of note:

  • The Mountain West provides awesome games; film at 11. New Mexico and Boise State played free basketball, with the Lobos getting out of town as victors 79-74. Still, BSU is a 13-3 team. Derrick Marks had 27 in the loss.
  • Miami got out of Boston with a 60-59 win against BC. It was close though and should have gone to overtime, only freshman Olivier Hanlan couldn't make three free throws after Miami's Durand Scott hacked him with .5 seconds to go. 
  • After sitting two starters for getting into a brawl with each other on Wednesday morning -- yes, that's right -- Michigan State didn't let the distraction lead to a loss at Penn State. Spartans 81, Nittany Lions 72.
  • Without Rotnei Clarke, Butler wins 62-47 against Richmond. It has won 12 straight and plays a big one at home against Gonzaga in about 60 hours.

Notebook:

-- I'd have guessed it'd been longer since State had seen anyone rush the floor on it.

-- CAA surprises are surprising. After Wednesday night, the league has Northeastern atop the standings with a 5-0 record while Towson is 4-1. Towson won two games all of last season, by the way.

-- The bottom has totally fallen out for Illinois State, which didn't stand much of a chance on the road against a Wichita State team that got Carl Hall back. The Redbirds fell 74-62 and are now an 0-6 Valley team. What a rough go of it for Dan Muller in his first year as coach.

-- UIC's Gary Talton hit a game-winner with two seconds remaining to lift the Flames over Loyola-Chicago. But get this: Loyola's Ben Averkamp is now 0-for-3 on the year on game-winning/tying attempts. Final: 61-59.

-- George Washington held a home lead on Temple for 38 minutes, then gave up a 10-0 run and let Fran Dunphy's team get out of there alive.

-- Southern Miss now a 3-0 C-USA team and 14-4 overall. Keep an eye.

-- Same can be said for 15-2 Charlotte, which beat Fordham to remain undefeated in A-10 play.

-- Of course, we have to close up shop with this. Our guy was damn good on TV duty, even if he does look like a massive The Hold Steady fan. (Love me some Steady.)
