Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim went on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday morning justy hours after a thrilling 78-75 victory over No. 10 Duke. The two spoke about the game, the last-second shot from John Gillon (which Boeheim called “lucky”) and Boeheim’s future at Syracuse.
“I don’t know what’s etched in stone these days,” Boeheim said. “I really don’t. There’s a plan in place, and we’re going to see what happens. But basically right now, I might be done this year. You just don’t know. You just have to wait until the season’s over.”
That would be a twist. In 2015, Boeheim announced he would step down from his post following the 2017-18 season, handing the reins over to Mike Hopkins. But a recent Sports Illustrated report indicated Boeheim’s previous plan might be extended, noting he would like to retire on his own terms.
This would certainly be on his own terms, although a year ahead of schedule. Check out the full interview:
