CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported on Monday that Florida has landed one of the most coveted transfers on the transaction market this college basketball offseason: Canyon Barry.
The 6-foot-6 senior-to-be spent his past four years (three of them playing) at Charleston. He averaged 19.7 points and 3.4 rebounds last season on a Charleston team that went 17-14. Barry did not play in the NCAA Tournament in his first three seasons with the Cougars. He is another basketball-playing son of Hall of Famer Rick Barry - Jon, Brent and Drew played in the NBA and Scooter played professionally overseas.
Barry picked UF over Miami (where his dad played) and Northwestern. He'll be a grad transfer, meaning he's eligible to play immediately and will only play one season for Mike White's Gator team. The Gators could use the offensive boost, for sure. This could turn UF into an NCAA tourney team. Barry is that talented.
"I really like Coach White, his integrity, his honesty with me, and his style of play," Barry said in a statement, ( via ESPN). "He and I both feel that I can make an immediate contribution on the court and help the team chase the goals of winning an SEC Championship and getting to the NCAA tournament next season."
