Texas basketball roster news

Despite squeezing into the NCAA Tournament, Texas finished near the bottom in the 2024-25 SEC basketball standings at just 6-12 in the conference. That means a roster overhaul is likely in store. Regardless of the coach, freshman guard Tre Johnson was always expected to be a one-and-done player, so the likely first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft can be penciled in as a departure even without a formal announcement yet.

Forwards Arthur Kaluma, Jayson Kent and Kadin Shedrick are among the notable players who are out of eligibility. In terms of returning production, all eyes will be on guards Jordan Pope and Tramon Mack, both of whom have eligibility remaining. The third and fourth leading scorers, respectively, would both be in line to handle a lot more of the scoring load assuming Johnson departs.

Expect the front court to be a priority for Miller in the Texas transfer portal. The Longhorns were 148th nationally in rebounding rate in 2024-25 and return no big men who played a substantial number of minutes. Get the latest Texas basketball roster news at Horns247.
