Jaylen Hands: Rights acquired by Westchester
The Westchester Knicks acquired the returning rights to Hands from the Long Island Nets on Monday in exchange for the returning rights to Bryce Brown, Brian Lewis of the New York Post reports.
Hands previously had his rights traded to the Pistons in November of 2020 as part of a three-team deal. Hands has yet to make his NBA debut.

Jaylen Hands: Rights dealt to Detroit
The Pistons acquired Hands' draft rights Nov. 19 as part of a three-team trade involving the Nets and Clippers.
Along with Hands, the Pistons acquired the 16th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft (used on Saddiq Bey) and Dzanan Musa. Meanwhile, the Nets received Bruce Brown, and the Clippers received Luke Kennard and four second-round picks. The No. 56 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Hands never signed with the Nets and instead spent his first season in the professional ranks with the G League's Long Island Nets. Over 41 games, he averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 22.6 minutes per contest.

Hands had an excellent game in his return from a one-game absence due to an undisclosed issue. While his role has been jeopardized a bit by the emergence of Chris Chiozza, Justin Anderson and Jeremiah Martin, Hands has played well enough this season to warrant a rotational role for the remainder of the season. On the year, he's averaging 13.6 points, 4.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per game.

The 20-year-old has started eight-of-11 games this season and is contributing 13.5 points, 3.8 assist and 2.7 rebounds in 24.2 minutes. A top-ranked recruit out of High School, Hands' struggled since his college days but appears to be finding his footing in Long Island. He's shooting a blistering 45.7 percent from behind the arc this year but will need to improve his defense and distributional skills if he's to find a role in the NBA.

Hands was a highly touted high school recruit before spending two seasons at UCLA, and a breakout sophomore season propelled him into declaring for the NBA draft. He is capable as both a scorer and playmaker, averaging 14.2 points and 6.1 assists per game last season. He will likely end up spending a good portion of his rookie season in the G League with the Nets already boasting quality depth in the backcourt.
