  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Out for season with Achilles injury

Oweh (Achilles) underwent surgery Wednesday and will miss the entirety of the 2026-27 season, Brandon Rahbar of DailyThunder.com reports.

Oweh exited Tuesday's preseason game against the Pacers with a non-contact injury that was later diagnosed as a ruptured right Achilles tendon. The No. 41 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft already faced an uphill battle for playing time on a loaded Thunder roster and will now miss his entire rookie campaign. Depending on his recovery progress, Oweh could be a candidate to participate in the 2027 Summer League.

  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Helped to locker room Tuesday

Oweh was helped to the locker room after sustaining an apparent lower right leg injury in the overtime period of Tuesday's preseason game against the Pacers, Rylan Stiles of SI.com reports.

Oweh suffered a non-contact injury and immediately grabbed at his lower right leg. The 23-year-old required assistance getting back to the locker room and is not expected to return in the final minutes of the game, meaning he'll finish with eight points (3-5 FG, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds in 15 minutes.

  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Back to second unit

Oweh will come off the bench for Tuesday's preseason matchup against Indiana, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman reports.

Oweh will shift to a reserve role as Oklahoma City starts Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso, Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein. With several established regulars returning to the starting lineup, the rookie could see fewer opportunities than he received during the Thunder's previous preseason contests.

  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Double-doubles in preseason loss

Oweh totaled 11 points (5-13 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block in 35 minutes during Monday's 113-110 preseason loss to the Hawks.

Oweh was one of nine players made available for Monday's preseason matchup, resulting in what was clearly his best performance of the preseason. Although he was able to chip in across most major categories, his performance should be considered more of an outlier than what to expect moving forward. At this point, he is unlikely to touch the floor on most nights, making him a non-factor in just about every redraft league.

  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Set to play Tuesday

Oweh (lower leg) is set to be available for Tuesday's preseason game against the Pelicans, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman reports.

Oweh sustained a lower-leg injury during the Salt Lake City Summer League. However, he isn't included on the laundry list of Oklahoma City players who'll be sidelined for the team's preseason opener. Head coach Mark Daigneault praised his "electric athleticism" and said he's "done a good job" thus far, per Martinez. Oweh should get an increased opportunity to put his skills on display Tuesday, as several of the Thunder's main rotation players won't suit up.

  • Thunder's Otega Oweh: Selected by Heat, traded to Thunder

The Heat selected Oweh with the No. 41 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and traded his rights to the Thunder, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.

The Thunder selected Ryan Conwell for the Heat with the No. 37 pick in exchange for the No. 41 pick and cash. Oweh began his collegiate career at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky, where he spent the last two seasons. He most recently logged 36 regular-season games for the Wildcats during the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.3 blocks and 1.8 steals across 32.8 minutes. Although his shooting needs work, he is still capable of making an impact on both ends of the floor. With that in mind, Oklahoma City has one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, meaning Oweh could have difficulty finding consistent minutes throughout his inaugural season.
