- OL Seantrel Henderson returned to practice at Miami on Wednesday. Henderson suffered a concussion in a car accident earlier in the preseason and was considered unlikely to be ready to play by Miami’s season opener. Michael Casagrande of the Sun Sentinel got a photo of Henderson heading to practice.
- Virginia Tech has a few outstanding issues remaining as it nears the end of preseason practice. The Hokies still need to make a decision on whether to redshirt RB Trey Edmunds, and WRs Joshua Stanford and Joel Caleb, according to The Virginian-Pilot’s Andy Bitter.
- Duke had its final scrimmage of the preseason Tuesday. QB Sean Renfree was a perfect 10 for 10, and backup Anthony Boone was seven of seven, both against the second-team defense. The team also received word that WR Blair Holliday, hurt in an offseason accident, was able to walk. The news wasn’t all good: The NCAA turned down Duke’s appeal to have S Jeremy Cash eligible to play immediately after transferring from Ohio State. The Herald Sun’s Steve Wiseman was on the sideline for the scrimmage.
- Georgia Tech announced that David Scully will be the team’s kicker. Scully was awarded a scholarship at the start of preseason practice and outkicked Justin Moore to win the job. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Ken Sugiura spoke to Scully.
- Clemson coaches seem to have made up their minds on the true freshman competing for time on the defensive line. Carlos Watkins and D.J. Reader, who originally signed as an offensive guard, are in the rotation at defensive tackle, while coaches plan to redshirt DT Kevin Dodd and DE Martin Aiken. OrangeandWhite.com’s Kerry Capps had the news.
