If the South Alabama Jaguars were expecting to get some payback for the 30-3 loss against the Appalachian State Mountaineers when they previously met in October of 2019, then they were left disappointed. South Alabama ended up on the wrong side of a painful 31-7 walloping at Appalachian State's hands on Saturday. That's the fewest points the Jaguars have scored all year.
Appalachian State QB Chase Brice was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 195 yards on 26 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Appalachian State's LB Trey Cobb got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the fourth quarter into a touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for South Alabama, but they got one touchdown from QB Desmond Trotter.
The loss dropped South Alabama back to even at 5-5. The victory bumped Appalachian State's record up to 8-2.
The Jaguars are on the road again next Saturday and play against the Tennessee Volunteers at 7:30 p.m. ET Nov. 20 at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee is hoping for a better outcome this game after a 41-17 defeat to the Georgia Bulldogs. As for the Mountaineers, they will go up against the Troy Trojans at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at Larry Blakeney Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Unlike Appalachian State, Troy will be stumbling in off of a defeat.
