Arizona State running back Marion Grice has left the team to be with his family following the death of his brother, according to the Arizona Republic. A school spokeman confirmed to CBSSports that Grice has in fact left the team. 

Grice's brother was shot and killed in Houston on Friday morning. Accoring to a report from 3TV Sports, the killing happened during a robbery attempt where two men tried to steal a newly released pair of Air Jordans from Grice's brother and an unnamed friend.  

Investigators believe Grice's brother was followed from the mall -- where he purchased the shoes -- to his home. Grice's brother attempted to flee his assailants in a car but was shot as he tried to elude them.

The team took to Twitter on Saturday to show their support for Grice, including this tweet from backup quarterback Michael Bercovici: 

Grice is Arizona State's second-leading rusher this season, as his 520 yards trails only Cameron Marshall, who finished the regular season with 524 yards. Grice however, did lead the Sun Devils in several stats, including yards per carry (5.8 ypc) and rushing touchdowns (9). 

Grice didn't practice Saturday and it's unknown if he will return to the team in time for Arizona State's Dec. 29 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl game against Navy.
