The Kent State Golden Flashes will head out on the road to face off against the Ball State Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at Scheumann Stadium. Kent State has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since September 16.
Last Wednesday, things were looking good for Kent State after they put the first points on the board, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They were completely outmatched by Bowling Green at home and fell 49-19.
Meanwhile, Ball State had just enough and edged Northern Illinois out 20-17 on Tuesday.
Kiael Kelly was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 115 yards and a touchdown. Marquez Cooper and his 93 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Ball State's victory.
Kent State bumped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's lackluster offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Ball State, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7.
Kent State is hoping to beat the odds on Saturday, as the experts think they're headed for a loss. For those looking to play the spread, watch out: Kent State is playing as the underdog, but their 1-7-1 record against the spread as such isn't exactly encouraging.
Kent State came up short against Ball State when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 27-20. Thankfully for Kent State, Carson Steele (who rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
