It has not been a good several months at Baylor. Sadly, a disturbing trend of behavior has shifted to animal abuse.
Bears wide receiver Ishmael Zamora is being disciplined internally after video surfaced of him brutally kicking and beating his dog with a belt. According to a report from KXXV, which also has the video, Zamora was attempting to "discipline" his dog after it had an accident in the house. Zamora was turned into authorities after a former Baylor student, Shelby Ball, saw the video.
We're not going to show the video, filmed in June, on here -- it's too graphic and shocking -- but it can be found on the KXXV website.
Baylor has said it is disciplining Zamora internally. Whether this results in missed playing time or not remains to be seen.
"We're not going to tolerate it," acting coach Jim Grobe told the Waco Tribune. "He's going to be disciplined by a bunch of people. The city is going to get a piece of him, and the university doesn't take it lightly. There will be some sanctions from the university. From an athletic department standpoint, we'll do some things. Hopefully, it's a teaching moment and a learning experience for him.
"We haven't decided exactly what we're going to do," Grobe continued. "The thing all of our players understand there's no guarantee you're going to get on the field just because you're a good player. Just because you're a good player doesn't mean we're going to overlook bad behavior."
Zamora caught nine passes for 132 yards and a pair of scores as a freshman in 2015. Per Ourlads.com, Zamora was projected as a starting wideout.
"I lost my temper trying to discipline him," Zamora said in a massive understatement to KXXV. "I've been through training with a dog trainer to help me learn new potty training tips."
Yeah, that's probably wise. As is refusing to let Zamora near any animals for a long, long time.
