When Oklahoma gets close to the end zone, the man known as the "Belldozer" takes over for Landry Jones.
On Tuesday, coach Bob Stoops announced that his goal-line QB, Blake Bell, had beat out junior Drew Allen for the backup quarterback job, making Bell the top candidate to take over for Jones in 2013.
"Drew has done a real good job and made great improvement," Stoops told the Oklahoman. "I just feel Blake has been more consistent overall and playing the way we need him to."
Bell scored 13 touchdowns over the final six games of last season and will resume his role as the Belldozer in 2012. It was his improvement as a passer that may have won him the job, as he completed 14 of 19 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown in an impressive performance in the spring game.
More news and notes from around the Big 12:

- Nice story on West Virginia special teamer Cecil Level. Level transferred from West Virginia Tech, a program that has been disbanded, and made his mark on special teams last year as a walk-on, which earned him a scholarship.
- Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads explained his decision to go with Steele Jantz as the starting quarterback to Bobby La Gesse of the Ames Tribune. Rhoads is confident in his decision, noting that Jantz will not be on a "short leash." We'll see.
- Kansas State QB Collin Klein was featured in Sports Illustrated.
- Mike Gundy gave freshman QB Wes Lunt an 'A' for his progression since the spring.
- Good luck trying to keep track of all the Oklahoma State receivers. The Cowboys like to spread the ball around and are countining on a mix of returners and newcomers to keep the machine chugging along.
- Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls writes that Texas running backs Malcolm Brown, Joe Bergerson and Johnathan Gray could be the best running back threesome in UT history.
- The KU offensive line is making it their goal to protect QB Dayne Crist.
- Playing for four different coordinators in four years has not fazed Texas Tech safety Cody Davis, who you might just call a student of the game. Well, that's what he's deemed himself on his blog. Check it out.
