The reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines had the highest climb in the latest college football polls, moving up to No. 12 following their 27-24 victory over No. 11 USC last weekend. Michigan, which ranked 18th last week, had an early-season setback in a 31-12 loss in the second game under Sherrone Moore in his first season as the full-time head coach at Michigan, but after winning back-to-back contests, how should you feel about using Michigan in Week 5 college football bets? The Wolverines are 10-point favorites at home against Minnesota in the latest Week 5 college football odds, according to the SportsLine consensus.

There are huge games across the Week 5 college football schedule, highlighted by No. 2 Georgia (-1) playing at No. 4 Alabama in a matchup of top playoff contenders. Also, No. 9 Penn State (-17.5) hosts No. 19 Illinois and No. 23 Kansas State (-5.5) hosts No. 20 Oklahoma State in the Week 5 college football schedule. Before locking in any Week 5 college football picks on those games or others, be sure to see the latest college football predictions from SportsLine's proven model.

Top college football predictions for Week 5

One of the college football picks the model is high on during Week 5: No. 16 Notre Dame (-6.5) picks up a double-digit win over No. 15 Louisville in a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup on Saturday. After a slow start last week against another MAC opponent after losing to Northern Illinois earlier in the season, Notre Dame scored two touchdowns over the final four minutes of the second quarter en route to a 28-3 victory over Miami (Ohio). Notre Dame defeated Purdue, 66-7, the week after its upset loss to Northern Illinois and if the Fighting Irish have any hopes of making the College Football Playoff, they need to not only win but win convincingly throughout the rest of the season.

Notre Dame was the preseason No. 7 team in the country due to its stout defense. That stellar defensive unit has shined this fall as the Fighting Irish rank seventh in scoring defense at 9.8 points per game this season. The Notre Dame pass defense has been elite, ranking second in the nation in completion percentage allowed (42.7%). Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough is completing 68.4% of his passes this season, but Notre Dame's defense is a significant rise in talent from what he's faced the majority of the season, leading to the model projecting Notre Dame to cover the spread in almost 60% of simulations. See the rest of its Week 5 college football picks here.

Another prediction: No. 21 Oklahoma (-1) notches a comfortable road win at Auburn in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday. The Sooners made their SEC debut last week against Tennessee and suffered a 25-15 loss at home. However, the Sooners did manage to hold the Volunteers nearly 40 points below their season scoring average entering the week and a quarterback change from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins Jr. seemed to spark the offense late.

Hawkins led the Sooners on a pair of fourth-quarter scoring drives and went 11-for-18 for 132 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 22 yards. Meanwhile, Auburn looked lethargic in a 24-14 loss to Arkansas last week and also only scored 14 points in their only other matchup against a power conference opponent, a 21-14 loss to Cal. That's a big reason why the model has Oklahoma covering the spread in well over 60% of simulations on its way to the first SEC win in program history. See picks for every other game in Week 5 here.
