Virginia Tech landed a commitment Sunday afternoon from Kendall Fuller, a 6-0, 175-pound defensive back out of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md. Fuller picked the Hokies over Clemson, his other finalist, during the final of the Champion Gridiron Kings, a football camp in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., for the nation's top skill-position players.

"Not going to say too much, I'm going to Virginia Tech," Fuller said during his announcement that was shown online on ESPN3.  

Fuller was pulled in different directions with three older brothers having played for Virginia Tech, including cornerback Kyle Fuller and wide receiver Corey Fuller, who currently play for the Hokies. Vincent Fuller was at Tech until being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2005.

Meanwhile, teammate and friend Dorian O'Daniel orally committed to Clemson back in April. Ultimately, the family ties won out.

“As I was driving home from the visit to Clemson, I started thinking about where I was going to develop most as a player,” Fuller told CBSSports.com's Bryan Fischer. “I just got that feeling that I knew I wanted to go to Virginia Tech. Their defense is so complex that you never know what they are going to be doing. Coach (Bud) Foster and Coach (Torrian) Gray are amazing coaches. They have a track record of great defensive backs that coach Gray has produced. Just sitting in the room watching film and seeing some of the different techniques, I just felt that the only way I could fail was if I did not work hard.”

He made his decision on Thursday, before making the trip to Florida for the Champion Gridiron Kings.

“When I told my mom Thursday I was going to Virginia Tech, she just jumped up and was happy,” he said. “My brothers did not say anything, really, about coming to Virginia Tech. We were in a group and I told them I was committing at Gridiron Kings. I told them Clemson to play around with them, and my oldest brother just wanted to know the reasons why. Then I told them I was kidding and I was going to Virginia Tech, and they were all pretty excited.” 

Fuller is rated the No. 42 overall recruit in the 2013 class and the No. 3 cornerback by MaxPreps.com. He is rated the No. 3 overall recruit in the 2013 class by Rivals. The Hokies now have 15 oral commitments for the class of 2013.
