Duke coach David Cutcliffe told reporters Tuesday that quarterbacks Sean Renfree and Anthony Boone are splitting reps in practice this week in preparation for Saturday's game at Virginia Tech.

#Duke's Cutcliffe: well make a decision about who is starting later in the week. Renfree and Boone have been splitting reps

Renfree started Duke’s first five games but hurt his right elbow during the second half of his team’s 34-27 win over Wake Forest on Sept. 29. The injury forced Renfree to miss Duke’s game against Virginia. For the season, Renfree has thrown for 1,282 yards on 72 percent passing with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.
Boone filled in admirably for Renfree in Saturday’s 42-17 win over Virginia. He completed 18 of 31 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns. Boone also ran for 41 yards on seven carries.
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said Tuesday his team is preparing to see both Renfree and Boone on Saturday, according to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times.
Saturday’s matchup features two programs that are in unfamiliar territory. Duke is off to a 5-1 start and is just one win away from becoming bowl eligible. The Blue Devils have not been to a bowl game since 1994.
Virginia Tech is 3-3, and there is a possibility the Hokies could miss out on a bowl game for the first time since 1992. However, Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas told reporters that wouldn’t happen.
