The Oklahoman is reporting that former
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy originally said that Sims had been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. That violation turned out to be Sims allegedly forging bank slips to make two withdrawals totalling $700 from the bank account of teammate Jeremiah Tshimanga.
Sims was charged with two felony counts of second-degree forgery and has pled not guilty to both charges.
Sims was a five-star recruit in Oklahoma State's 2011 class, and had 242 yards and 2 touchdowns on 31 carries for the Cowboys last season while serving as a third-string running back behind Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith.
Sims becomes the third Oklahoma State player to transfer to Lamar this summer, joining wide receiver Kevin Johnson and defensive lineman Joe Okafor. Since Lamar is an FCS school Sims will not have to sit out a season before becoming eligible.
He'll also return to Stillwater in 2013 as Lamar is scheduled to play Oklahoma State on September 14, 2013.
