Linebacker Jelani Jenkins will be out for at least a month with a thumb injury sustained against Texas A&M. (US Presswire) |
Florida coach Will Muschamp's update on the status of several injured Gators on Monday brought some bad news for the defense, according to the Florida Times-Union.
DE Ronald Powell, who was hoping for a mid-season return from a torn ACL suffered in the spring, has reinjured the knee, and likely won't be back this season. The junior will be eligible for a redshirt.
LB Jelani Jenkins (thumb) and CB Cody Riggs (foot) will also be out for at least a month with injuries they sustained during the 20-17 road win over Texas A&M on Saturday. The Gators have plenty of depth at CB, but losing Jenkins, the team's third-leading tackler in 2011, is a major blow. Look for freshman LB Antonio Morrison to be the starter while Jenkins is out.
The Gators have a tough trip to Tennessee this week, but there will be some time to recover with Kentucky and then a bye week following before they host LSU on Oct. 6.
The news was better on the offensive side. RB Mike Gillislee (groin) has been cleared to play against the Vols. Gillislee has been the most productive player for the Gators this season with 38 carries for 231 yards and four touchdowns.
