The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the few college football programs that have championship expectations on an annual basis. The Bulldogs entered the 2024 season as the betting favorites to win the College Football Playoff national championship, but came up short for the second consecutive season, losing to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals. Quarterback Carson Beck is moving on to the NFL, leaving sophomore Gunner Stockton as the presumed starter heading into spring practice. Kirby Smart and his staff still have additional holes in the Georgia football roster to fill and have already been active in the college football transfer portal.

Georgia will undoubtedly be one of the preseason top contenders to win next year's national championship, based on its robust Georgia football depth chart and recent success. What are Smart and his staff doing to position the program to win its third national title in five years? Georgia football roster news

Georgia hasn't traditionally been the type of program that builds its roster through the transfer portal, but the Bulldogs recently landed two coveted players that could make immediate impacts in Athens next fall. Wide receiver Zachariah Branch and his brother, safety Zion Branch, both opted to leave USC and enter the Portal after the regular season ended for the Trojans, and both players chose to join the Bulldogs. Both players will be juniors for the 2025 season.

Zachariah burst onto the college football scene as a true freshman in 2023, establishing himself as arguably the premier kick and punt returner in the country. He averaged 20.8 yards per punt return on 16 attempts and returned one punt for a touchdown. He was almost equally as effective returning kickoffs, averaging 18.4 yards per return on 24 attempts with one touchdown. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Branch will add another explosive weapon to Georgia's arsenal.

Zion was another highly coveted prospect coming out of high school and made an immediate impact at USC. He was rated as a four star recruit and the No. 58 overall prospect in the country in the class of 2022 high school rankings, according to 247 Sports. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety will help ease the burden of Georgia losing Malaki Starks to the NFL Draft. Get more Georgia football roster updates at Dawgs247.
