The UCF Knights had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They made easy work of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday and carried off a 49-21 win.
UCF QB Dillon Gabriel was slinging it as he passed for four TDs and 417 yards on 41 attempts in addition to picking up 30 yards on the ground. Gabriel's longest connection was to WR Tre Nixon for 49 yards in the first quarter. WR Marlon Williams was in the mix, too, providing UCF with two touchdowns.
The Knights' defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected two interceptions and three fumbles. The picks came courtesy of DL Stephon Zayas and DL Josh Celiscar.
RB Jahmyr Gibbs put forth a good effort for the losing side as he punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD.
The victory improved UCF's record to 1-0. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets back to even at 1-1.
UCF is staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the East Carolina Pirates at noon ET Sept. 26 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. As for Georgia Tech, they will go up against the Syracuse Orange at noon ET next Saturday at Carrier Dome. Like Georgia Tech, 'Cuse is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 21-10 to the Pittsburgh Panthers.
