Hawaii vs. Fresno State: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Hawaii vs. Fresno State football game
Game Recap
On Saturday, the Fresno State Bulldogs were out to avenge their 34-19 defeat to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors from their previous meeting last October, but they had no such luck. Fresno State fell in a 27-24 heartbreaker. They were up 24-10 at the end of the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Hawaii's RB Calvin Turner did his thing and punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. QB Brayden Schager didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet, but finished with two touchdowns.
The Rainbow Warriors' defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected four interceptions and two fumbles. DB Khoury Bethley picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
WR Zane Pope hadn't helped the Bulldogs' cause all that much against the UNLV Rebels last Friday, but the same can't be said for this matchup. Pope put forth a good effort for the losing side as he caught five passes for two TDs and 113 yards. One of the most thrilling moments was Pope's 65-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
The loss dropped Fresno State's record to 4-2. Hawaii's victory ended a four-game game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-3.
Fresno State is staying on the road in two weeks to face off against the Wyoming Cowboys at 2 p.m. ET Oct. 16 at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off; they will square off against the Nevada Wolf Pack at Clarence Mackay Stadium at 10:30 p.m. ET in two weeks.
