Update: Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed on Monday that quarterback Wilton Speight is out with a back injury. However, he did not specify the exact nature of the injury or how long Speight would be out. Harbaugh only reiterated that Speight would miss "multiple weeks."
"I don't know if he'll be out for the year. There are some cracks in there," Harbaugh told reporters. "But I'm not a doctor. That's all I want to say."

Michigan's 14-10 loss to Michigan State is being compounded by more bad news regarding Week 1 starting quarterback Wilton Speight.
Speight suffered three broken vertebrae in his back and is "likely" to miss the rest of the season against Purdue, according to ESPN. He will be re-evaluated in about two months and it's not clear yet whether the reported injury will require surgery.
The ESPN report also states that play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler said during Saturday night's broadcast that Speight said he has three broken vertebrae. Fowler added that Speight is "out, probably for the season."
Michigan has not officially confirmed the nature of Speight's injury or the timeline for recovery. Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed this past week that Speight is out "multiple weeks" with an unspecified injury he sustained against the Boilermakers. John O'Korn was named the starter in Speight's place and went 16-of-35 for 198 yards with three interceptions during the rain-drenched loss to the Spartans.
Speight had completed 54 percent of his passes for 581 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions before his injury.
