Michigan State vs. Northwestern updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Michigan State vs. Northwestern football game
Game Recap
It was a good run, but the Northwestern Wildcats finally witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak. They came up short against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday, falling 29-20. This was hardly the result Northwestern or its fans were betting on, as they were favored by 13.5 points over MSU heading into this contest.
QB Rocky Lombardi hadn't helped the Spartans' cause all that much against the Indiana Hoosiers two weeks ago, but the same can't be said for this matchup. MSU Lombardi did work as he passed for two TDs and 167 yards on 27 attempts in addition to picking up 65 yards on the ground. Near the top of the highlight reel was Lombardi's 75-yard TD bomb to WR Jalen Nailor in the first quarter. The team can also thank their defense for forcing the opposing offense to cough up 4 turnovers.
MSU's defense was a presence as well, as it got past Northwestern's offensive line to sack the QB four times total. Leading the way was DE Drew Beesley and his two sacks. Beesley now has three sacks this season.
No one had a standout game offensively for Northwestern, but they got one touchdown from QB Peyton Ramsey.
The Wildcats' overall record fell to 5-1. The Spartans' win ended a six-game game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-3.
Northwestern is staying on the road next Saturday to face off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 1 p.m. ET Dec. 5 at TCF Bank Stadium. MSU will play host again and welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes to Spartan Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like MSU, OSU is also coming into the game bolstered by a recent victory.
