Michigan vs. Michigan State score: No. 2 Wolverines dominate, pick up largest win over Spartans since 1947
The Wolverines dominated the Spartans from start to finish on Saturday in the annual rivalry showdown
No. 2 Michigan rolled to a 49-0 win against Michigan State in the most lopsided win over its rival since 1947. The win keeps the Wolverines' undefeated season alive at 8-0 and marks the seventh time Michigan has held its opponent to one score or fewer. Minnesota is the only team to score more than a touchdown against UM's defense thus far.
Saturday's result was never in question. Michigan scored a touchdown on each of its first three drives while holding the Spartans to 27 total yards in that same span. Michigan State moved the ball into Michigan territory three times all game, and those drives ended with a turnover on downs, an interception and another turnover on downs.
Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy had one of his best games of the season. He was pulled midway through the third quarter and still managed to complete 21 of his 27 pass attempts for 287 yards and four touchdowns. Michigan State produced 190 total yards of offense and turned the ball over twice. Michigan State did, at least, do a respectable job against Michigan's vaunted rushing attack, holding the Wolverines to 120 yards with 3.5 yards per carry.
Michigan returns home next week for a cross-divisional clash with Purdue before the schedule gains a great degree of difficulty. The Wolverines have to play both Penn State and Ohio State in the last three weeks of the regular season.
