The NC State Wolfpack decided to play defense against itself on Saturday, but the squad still came out ahead despite their 107 penalty yards. They were able to grind out a solid win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, winning 23-13. For the Wolfpack, this is just revenge for the 28-26 loss they suffered against Georgia Tech the last time they faced one another on Nov. 21 of last year.
NC State took a little while to warm up, but they followed up a slow three-point first quarter with 17 points in the second. Georgia Tech countered with 7 points. NC State coasted a bit in the second half, relying primarily on their first half lead, but they still walked away with the victory.
No one had a standout game offensively for NC State, but they got scores from RB Zonovan Knight and RB Ricky Person Jr.. More help came courtesy of LB Payton Wilson, who was good for 11 tackles.
Special teams collected 11 points for the Wolfpack. K Christopher Dunn delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Despite the defeat, the Yellow Jackets got a solid performance out of QB Jeff Sims, who accumulated 151 passing yards in addition to rushing for one TD and 93 yards.
NC State's victory brought them up to 8-3. Georgia Tech's defeat pushed them down to 3-6.
The Wolfpack's regular season is over. As for Georgia Tech, they will go up against the Pittsburgh Panthers at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field. Pitt also suffered a recent defeat, falling 52-17 to the Clemson Tigers last week.
