Saturday, the North Carolina Tar Heels turned the game against the Western Carolina Catamounts into a track meet and took the gold after outgaining them 540 yards to 253. UNC steamrolled past Western Carolina 49-9 at home. That's another feather in the cap for the Tar Heels, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
UNC's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 42 points in the first half. Western Carolina wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 42-3 heading into the break. The North Carolina defense was impenetrable in the third quarter, shutting them out and essentially clinching the contest.
UNC relied on the efforts of RB Michael Carter, who punched in three rushing touchdowns, and QB Sam Howell, who passed for two TDs and 287 yards on 23 attempts in addition to picking up 41 yards on the ground. That's the most rushing touchdowns Carter has had all year.
The Tar Heels' win brought them up to 7-3. The Catamounts' overall record fell to 0-3.
UNC will take on the Miami (FL) Hurricanes at noon ET next week at Hard Rock Stadium. As for Western Carolina, their regular season is over.
