North Texas vs. Northwestern State: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the North Texas vs. Northwestern State football game
Game Recap
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday. They made easy work of the Northwestern State Demons and carried off a 44-14 win. The margin was wide but not a surprise since the spread was 20 points in North Texas' favor.
The Mean Green started the contest off right with 24 first-half points. Northwestern State wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 24-14 heading into the break. North Texas put the game away in the third quarter with 17 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
RB DeAndre Torrey was a one-man wrecking crew for North Texas, rushing for three TDs and 227 yards on 22 carries. On the other hand, one thorn in North Texas' side was the less-than-spectacular play of QB Jace Ruder, who threw two interceptions with only 134 yards passing.
The Mean Green's defense was a presence, as it collected one interception and three fumbles. S Makyle Sanders picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for the Demons, but they got scores from WR Kendrick Price Jr. and RB Scooter Adams. Near the top of the highlight reel was Kaleb Fletcher's 65-yard TD bomb to Price Jr. in the second quarter. The matchup brought North Texas to 1-0 and dropped Northwestern State to a mirror-image 0-1.
The Mean Green will take on the SMU Mustangs at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. SMU is coming in off of a big 56-9 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats. The Demons are on the road again next Saturday and play against the Alcorn State Braves at 7 p.m. ET Sept. 11 at Spinks-Casem Stadium. Like Northwestern State, Alcorn State is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 23-14 to the North Carolina Central Eagles.
