Notre Dame vs. North Carolina updates: Live NCAAF game scores, results for Saturday
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Notre Dame vs. North Carolina football game
Game Recap
The North Carolina Tar Heels typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday the Notre Dame Fighting Irish proved too difficult a challenge. The Fighting Irish walked away with a 44-34 win. This was the most points they've scored all season.
Notre Dame's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 17 points in the first half. UNC wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 17-13 heading into the break. The offense for Notre Dame continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 27 points to put the game away.
RB Kyren Williams continued his habit of dropping crazy stat lines, rushing for one TD and 202 yards on 22 carries. That touchdown -- a 91-yard rush in the fourth quarter -- was one of the highlights of the game. QB Jack Coan had a good game, too, finishing with two touchdowns.
Special teams collected 14 points for Notre Dame. K Jonathan Doerer delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
The losing side was boosted by QB Sam Howell, who passed for one TD and 341 yards on 31 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 92 yards.
The victory bumped Notre Dame's record up to 7-1. The loss dropped the Tar Heels back to even at 4-4.
The Fighting Irish will be hunkering down at home again for their matchup against the Navy Midshipmen at 3:30 p.m. ET Nov. 6 at Notre Dame Stadium. Navy is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 20-17 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday. UNC will be playing at home against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at noon ET next Saturday. Wake Forest has averaged 51.67 points over the course of their past three games, so UNC might be in for a challenge.
