Game Recap
After flying high against the Massachusetts Minutemen last week, the Northwestern Wildcats came back down to earth. On Saturday, Northwestern lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers by a decisive 38-22 margin. Northwestern was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Minnesota apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played, back in last November.
WR Rashod Bateman was the offensive standout of the game for Minnesota, as he caught seven passes for 78 yards and three TDs. QB Tanner Morgan was in the mix, too, providing the Golden Gophers with four touchdowns.
A silver lining for Northwestern was the play of QB Andrew Marty, who rushed for 52 yards and two TDs on 16 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns Marty has had all year.
The Wildcats' defeat pushes them down to 2-8. The victory improved the Golden Gophers' record to 9-1.
The Wildcats will square off against the Illinois Fighting Illini at noon ET next week at Memorial Stadium. Those two teams will surely be fighting tooth and nail to get back into the win column after losses this week. The Golden Gophers will take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 3:30 p.m. ET at home.
