<img style= tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort had already been suspended indefinitely following their arrests for obstructing official business, but now the duo will be paying for their classes this summer.
Ohio State announced on Friday that it had removed both players from their scholarships for the summer.
"We are disappointed with the decisions made recently by two of our football players," said Urban Meyer in a statement. "Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort will each be removed from athletic scholarship beginning with the summer term, and they will continue to be suspended from team activities until stipulations are successfully met. They will have an opportunity to return to the team in good standing following the summer session."
Now since this is Urban Meyer and some players being arrested and suspended, there will be roughly a thousand different reactions to this. Personally, I think this is just about as harsh as Meyer should be in this case.
Yes, Mewhort and Stoneburner were arrested, but it's not as though they committed some horrible crime. They got caught urinating in public and tried to run away from police before their better judgement got the best of them and they stopped running. That's it.
So, honestly, if you think that either of them should be suspended for an actual game it's only because you don't like Ohio State or Urban Meyer, not because you're using common sense.
