Ohio State vs. Akron Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game
Live scores, highlights and updates from the Ohio State vs. Akron football game
Game Recap
When you finish with 393 more yards than your opponent like the Ohio State Buckeyes did on Saturday, a favorable outcome is almost sure to follow. They steamrolled past the Akron Zips 59-7 at home. It should come as no surprise that the experts had more or less unanimously put their money on the Buckeyes.
The game started off well for OSU, whose offense put up 38 first-half points. Akron wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 38-7 heading into the break. OSU put the contest away in the third quarter with 14 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
OSU can attribute much of their success to RB TreVeyon Henderson, who punched in two rushing touchdowns. Ohio State's S Ronnie Hickman got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the second quarter into a touchdown.
No one had a standout game offensively for Akron, but they got scores from WR Konata Mumpfield and QB DJ Irons. The matchup pushed the Zips down to 1-3 and pulled the Buckeyes up to the reverse at 3-1.
OSU will take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday at SHI Stadium. Unlike OSU, RU will be limping in after taking a loss. Akron will be playing at home against the Ohio Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. ET next Saturday. Neither Akron nor Ohio could muster much offensive firepower in their last games, so look to the defense to decide this one.
