What to Know
The Oklahoma Sooners are 7-0 against the TCU Horned Frogs since November of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Saturday. Oklahoma and TCU will face off in a Big 12 battle at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. These two teams have set a high bar for this game after stand-out offensive performances in their previous games.
The Sooners were able to grind out a solid victory over the Texas Longhorns last week, winning 55-48. Oklahoma was down 28-7 at the end of the first quarter, but the squad rallied to mount a comeback. RB Kennedy Brooks and QB Caleb Williams were among the main playmakers for Oklahoma as the former rushed for two TDs and 217 yards on 25 carries and the latter passed for two TDs and 211 yards on 24 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 88 yards. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Brooks has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season. Brooks' sharp performance also set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.
Special teams collected 17 points for Oklahoma. K Gabe Brkic delivered a perfect 4-for-4 game. This makes it three perfect games in a row for him.
Meanwhile, the Horned Frogs took their matchup against the Texas Tech Red Raiders last week by a conclusive 52-31 score. With TCU ahead 35-10 at the half, the game was all but over already. RB Kendre Miller had a dynamite game for TCU; he rushed for three TDs and 185 yards on 12 carries. Miller put himself on the highlight reel with a 75-yard TD scramble in the third quarter. Miller's sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.
Oklahoma is the favorite in this one, with an expected 13.5-point margin of victory. Those who got lucky with them against the spread last week might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the squad has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
Oklahoma is now a perfect 6-0 while TCU sits at 3-2. Two defensive stats to keep an eye on: The Sooners are 218th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 12 on the season. The Horned Frogs have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the contest with the 205th most rushing yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 206 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
