Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman shared in a Sooners team meeting that he will be donating a portion of his NIL earnings to the team's walk-ons as a token of recognition and appreciation for their hard work. While exact figures were not shared, the Sooners said the sum being shared was a "large" amount.
Stutsman's gesture is a very significant one, particularly given that his NIL valuation is relatively modest in the grand scheme of a college football industry that deals in billions of dollars. According to On3, Stutsman's NIL valuation is approximately $350,000.
"Obviously, there are days where you feel like your hard work doesn't get seen, doesn't get noticed. But it really does here at Oklahoma, and every single day we appreciate you guys," Stutsman said. "This team would be nothing without you guys. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I truly do mean that.
"I feel like I have a really good connection with all of you guys, and I just know how much you guys put into this program ... With that being said, I want to donate some of my NIL earnings to you guys so you can have a little something else. After the meetings, this will be in your lockers."
Stutsman, who was a first-team All-Big 12 selection a year ago, returned to Oklahoma for the 2024 season despite some expectation that he might declare for the NFL Draft. He is expected to once again be an integral part of the Sooners' defense as they compete in their first season as a member of the SEC.
