Pac-12 scoreboard 

Utah 41, Northern Colorado 0: The Utes got off to a slow start -- they didn't score in the first quarter -- but once they got going, they got going. Utah scored 21 points in the second quarter to put away the FCS Bears. On the offensive end, John White rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown while Jordan Wynn threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Utah only surrendered 24 rushing yards and 121 total yards in a dominating performance that would make any defensive coordinator happy.

UCLA 49, Rice 24: The Bruins offense started the game with a 72-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage and things only got better from there. Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley, making his first start, not only scored on the 72-yard run, he also threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the game. RB Johnathan Franklin got his senior year off to a strong start with 215 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.

BYU 30, Washington State 6: Mike Leach's Washington State coaching debut wasn't exactly a memorable one for the Cougars. For only the third time in his 11-year coaching career, a Leach offense was held wihtout a touchdown. Quarterback Jeff Tuel completed 30 of 45 passes for 229 yards for WSU, but he never found the end zone and was intercepted twice. The lowlight for the Cougars may have been their rushing total, they finished the game with negative-5 yards.  

Arizona State 63, Northern Arizona 6: The Todd Graham era got off to an explosive start Thursday, even it it was against an FCS team. The Sun Devils scored nine touchdowns, including three by junior running back Marion Grice, who carried the ball 14 times for 107 yards. Quarterback Taylor Kelly was impressive in his first start, completing 15 of 19 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown. The Sun Devils 63 points were the most since the team also scored 63 in a win over Temple in 2005.

Play of the Day: If there were any questions about Brett Hundley being able to handle the starting QB job at UCLA, they were answered quickly Thursday. On the Bruins first offensive play from scrimmage, Hundley scored on a 72-yard run. The freshman quarterback followed that up on the Bruins next possession with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Johnson. Hundley finished his impressive night with 202 yards and two touchdowns through the air and 68 yards and one touchdown on the ground. 

Defensive star of the day: LB Damien Holmes, UCLA. After watching Rice storm back from a 19-0 deficit and cutting the Bruins lead to 29-24, UCLA needed a spark and they got it from Holmes. With under a minute to play in the first half, Holmes picked up an Owl fumble and returned it 44-yards for a score to put UCLA up 11 -- they missed the PAT. After Holmes' TD, Rice wouldn't score again and the Bruins were able to blow the game open in the second half by tacking on two touchdowns. 

Offensive star of the day: QB Brett Hundley, UCLA. Coach Jim Mora named Hundley the starter in mid-August and Hundley made Mora look like a genius Thursday. The dual threat QB passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown. The Bruins first two possessions were almost perfect: the team ran four plays, totaled 119 yards and scored two touchdown. The only mistake Hundley made on the day was a second quarter interception made by Rice's Cameron Nwosu.  

A spot on the bench for: UCLA K Ka'imi Fairbairn. Fairbairn struggled in the first half against Rice. The freshman hit only 2 of 5 on PATs in the game's first two quarters. It was so bad that Bruin coach Jim Mora decided to go for 2-points on both of UCLA's second half touchdowns. Depsite his PAT struggles, Fairbairn did connect on his only field goal attempt, a 27-yarder in the second quarter.
