Cougars kicker Andrew Furney lifts the Apple Cup that he helped Washington State win from Washington. (AP) |
Here's a look at what (or who?) we would build from Week 8:
Brain: Oregon QB Marcus Mariota -- Mariota has made all the right moves for the Ducks this year, and he continued his heady play against Oregon State. He finished with 140 yards on 17-of-24 passing with a score and added 85 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Heart: Washington State K Andrew Furney -- In a season that has been marked by laughable Pac-12 kicking, Furney took a step toward redemption with his clutch performance in the Apple Cup. Furney's 45-yard field goal with 2:09 left tied the game at 28, and his 27-yard field goal in overtime won it.
Eyes: Utah RB John White -- White has been on and off this year, but boy was he on against Colorado in a 42-35 win on Friday. His 168 yards on 20 carries helped the Utes come back from a surprising 28-20 deficit. While it capped off a down season -- he had just 1,041 yards as a senior after 1,519 as a junior -- he averaged 4.8 yards per carry both years.
Legs: Arizona State RB Marion Grice -- Grice helped Arizona State build an early lead, then helped the Sun Devils come back against the Wildcats. His two second-quarter touchdowns gave ASU the lead, then his 4-yard score with 7:42 left tied the game again at 27. Oh, and he finished with 156 yards.
Feet: Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor -- Taylor was a grinder against Oregon in Week 12, leading Stanford to the win with a plodding, pounding, grinding 33-carry, 161-yard performance. But he was swift and agile and just as productive last week against UCLA: 142 yards, two touchdowns, and a rematch in the Pac-12 title game.
